Joe has 200 more miles left to go, but he has to quit
in order to make it back home in time for school.
He will finish the 200 miles sometime in the future.
Joe comes home to Pittsburgh on Saturday.

Oh so close! Good job though Joe. To hike for that long is simply amazing. I doubt I could have done the same.

It’s been over a month since I’ve heard any news on Joe.  No worries, he’s still alive…and has a HUGE beard!

“We met up with Joe north of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and went to Philadelphia on the 4th of July.  Here are some pictures attached to this email.  Check out Joe’s enormous beard.”

A Visit To My Cousin

My cousin is big into hiking.  She’s been awaiting Joe’s visit to Virginia to meet up with him.  She blogged about the whole visit here.  She also mentioned him briefly here.  You can see all the photos she took of him here.  Joe gave me a call that day, but unfortunately I was hiking that day and didn’t have my phone with me.  I returned the call, but (no surprise) got voice mail.  Left him a message wishing him continued luck.  Joe also started his online Journal for the hike.

“Joseph went to a Baptist church in Tennessee this past Sunday.  He took his wallet out to give an offering and he forgot his wallet at the church. ‘Mom, it is at a Baptist church in Tennessee somewhere’ So after he explained where the church might be, I called around.  I did find the church!!! It looked hopeless, really. Do you have any idea how MANY Baptist churches are in Tennessee!!!!! The church is mailing the wallet and cell phone back to me. Yes, he forgot his cell phone, too. Then I am going to mail it to his friend in Virginia. Joe will meet up with his friend in Virginia and she will give it to him. This is the second time on a Sunday that he found a church to go to! Happy Memorial Day!”

“I’m at S.B.F. and I got your package. Thank you so much. The people here really love the cookies.  I’ll be in Hot Springs in 2 days, and Erwin a few days later. I’m not sure when I’ll be in Erwin, but I’ll try to call from Hot Springs to let you know.”
