UPDATE: Joe’s charity has changed.  A new post has been made updating on Joe’s Hike.

Friend and fellow geek, Joe Frambach, will spend this summer on The Appalachian Trail, backpacking 2,174 miles from Georgia to Maine, in just over 100 days. He is using this trip as a means of raising awareness and funding for Paws With A Cause. PAWS trains Assistance Dogs nationally for people with disabilities and provides lifetime team support which encourages independence. PAWS promotes awareness through education.

He needs all the help that he can get. A $5,000 fund raising goal has been set for the project, and he is looking for donors and sponsors to help meet and perhaps surpass this goal. He’s currently using First Giving as the collection service to ensure that all donations are managed appropriately. More information on the trek is available at his Univ Of Pitt Homepage.

Throughout the duration of the trek, he will keep a journal with him at all times. He will attempt to meet many people and log their stories and their reasons for hiking, alongside his own narration of the trail. He’s also offering a copy of the journal upon completion.

I ask to any reader to help out by donating, even if its only a dollar. To my fellow bloggers, please repost this message to help bring in more donations. Lastly to everyone, please Digg his story to help further spread the word.

AWESOME! I am a fan of the Appalachian Trail and anyone who can hike it in 100 days. :) When does he leave?
